Syrian Crisis

We sincerely thank the following businesses & individuals who helped make our Fundraiser a success! Together, our community contributed $22,000 towards Emergency Humanitarian Aid for Syrian Refugees, an amount doubled by the Federal Government to $44,000!

Plan Canada is mailing out tax receipts to anyone who included their personal information on a donation of $25 or more. If you haven’t received your receipt by March 1, 2016, please contact us.

You Can Still Donate!

As the Federal Fund-matching Program for donations to Relief efforts overseas has been extended until the 29th of February, opportunities to contribute continue. Our live DONATE NOW button links you directly to our Fundraising Partner, PLAN Canada’s Page, or you can contribute through another Registered Charity of your choice, such as UNICEF, The Red Cross or Médicins Sans Frontières (MSF).

As Canada has begun to welcome Government Sponsored Refugees through the Leadership of Prime Minister Trudeau, the Valley, too, has welcomed its first two privately sponsored families. The Duncan United Church, in partnership with the Cowichan Intercultural Society (CIS),  continues to fundraise for the new arrivals.  If you wish to help the local effort, contact Linda Evans or CIS–which continues to actively pursue additional opportunities for refugee sponsorship, is now a sponsor agreement holder, and remains the contact point for anyone interested in joining or forming a sponsor’s group of their own to welcome other refugee families — of any nationality —to the Cowichan. For further info about their sponsorship opportunities, support services and programs, email: cis@cis-iwc.org or phone 250 748 3112.
